up at any afternoon practice from Wednesday, May 2 through Friday, June 3.

* T-shirts can be ordered during registration. The last date for t-shirt sales will

Insurance

The Lone Star Summer Swim League provides insurance to protect swimmers age

5-19. No swimmer can participate in practice or meets until he or she turns 5.

Swim Clinics

Our coaching staff will be offering stroke clinics for individuals who want to

receive targeted start, stroke, and turn technique training.

2 clinics offered on Saturday, May 14: free and breast stroke.

2 clinics offered on Saturday, May 21: back and fly stroke.

Information on times and cost will be forthcoming.

(Swim clinics are also offered by the Wave and Streamline Aquatics during the

month of April – contact Lisa Miller @ goldengeckos@satx.rr.com for more info.)

Swimsuit Sales

Solid black swimsuits sold by D & J Sports (6413 Blanco Road) can be ordered at

the pool on the afternoon of Thursday, May 5 from 4:30-6:30. The coaches would

like all swimmers in the 6 and under age group (and any swimmers who have

difficulty swimming across the pool without stopping) to have swim fins available

during practices. These will also be available for purchase from D&J, or you may

buy your own.

Team Photo Shoot

A photographer from Mark Florence Photography will come to the pool on

Thursday, May 19 at 5:00 to take a team picture. Swimmers are instructed to

wear their team swimsuits (or an all black swimsuit) to the photo shoot. After the

team picture, the photographer will be available to take individual pictures.

Swim-A-Thon

May 20th practice will be turned into a swim-a-thon fundraiser. Swimmers are

asked to solicit sponsors to pledge money for each pool length they can complete

during an allotted time. More information will be provided once the season starts.

Team Party

The team party will be held on Monday, June 27 from 6:00-8:00 at the Oak

Meadow pool. It will be a celebration for the completion of the season. Team and

championship awards will be handed out during the party.

Sponsors

Any individual or group wishing to sponsor the team may contact Ricki Ford at (210)

493-5116 or rickiford@att.net. Sponsors will be entitled to advertisement on the

team t-shirt, meet programs, and pool banners.

Parent Participation

Putting together a swim meet is a task that requires lots of time and effort. The

coaches, swim team manager, and pool board cannot do it alone. Therefore, all

parents/guardians of swimmers are expected to volunteer 4 units of time during

the course of the season. Volunteering for half of a meet equals one unit of time.

Descriptions for all of the volunteer positions can be found on pages 4 and 5 of

this packet. A signup list for volunteer jobs will be available during registration

and at afternoon practices. Parents must sign up (or pay the non-volunteer fee)

prior to the first swim meet.

In addition to volunteering time, each swimmer’s family needs to contribute one 12-

pack of sodas per swimmer to be sold at the concession stand during the two home

meets. Swimmers may bring these sodas to practices beginning on Monday, May 2

through May 6. The following is a breakdown of the soda types requested based on

the first letter of the swimmer’s last name.

A-E Coke

F-L Diet Coke or Diet Dr. Pepper

M-R Root Beer

S-Z Dr. Pepper

Silent Auctions

A silent auction will be held during the second home meet on Monday, June 13th.

Any individual wishing to contribute to the swim team may donate items or services

to be sold at the auction. Ideally, we would like each swim family to donate at least

one item. If you are able to contribute, please contact Renee Flores or Lori Bowen.

Volunteer Positions

Meet Set Up—On the day of a home meet, volunteers show up at noon to prepare the pool for the meet. Some of the tasks include roping off the pool, positioning flagpoles, and setting up concession stands.

Meet set up lasts about 2 hours.

Meet Clean Up- Helps clean up after home meets.

Event Turner- Sits in lifeguard booth and displays the correct event number.

Starter- Announcing events during the meet with the megaphone (this requires a short pre-training)

Volunteer Checker – Makes sure volunteers sign in to work their shifts at beginning and middle of meets.

Heat Sheets—These volunteers sell heat sheets at the pool entrance from 4:00-5:30 on the day of a home meet.

Concessions—These volunteers sell food and drinks at the concession stand.

Barbecue Grillers—These volunteers grill hot dogs and hamburgers.

Head Timers—These volunteers assure that all stopwatches are operational, distribute stopwatches to timers, designate lead timers for each lane, run a watch on every heat, and collect stopwatches at the end of the meet.

Timers—These volunteers use stopwatches to time swimmers during the meets.

Time Sheet Runners—These volunteers run the time sheets from the timers to the

scorer’s table.

Water Bottle Runners—These volunteers provide waters to other volunteers.

Ready Bench—These volunteers collect swimmers prior to their events and take them to the ready benches behind the starting blocks.

Starting Blocks—These volunteers make sure that swimmers are in the correct lanes for the start of their races.

Turn & Stroke Judges—These volunteers watch swimmers to make sure they are executing legal swim strokes and turns. (Must attend a training clinic on 5/14 or 5/21)

Time Selectors—These volunteers receive the timing sheets and select the official times for swimmers. If three times are recorded for a swimmer this volunteer selects the middle time as the official time. If two times are recorded, this volunteer averages the two times to get the official time.

Computer Operators—These volunteers enter the results of each race into the Hy-Tek computer program, post results, and print ribbon stickers. (Must attend a training session on 4/28 or 5/7 to do this position)

Scoring Assistant—These volunteers assist the computer operator at the scorer’s table.

Ribbon Distributors—These volunteers sit at the scorer’s table. When the computer

operator prints ribbon stickers, the ribbon distributor puts the stickers on the

appropriate ribbons, and then places the ribbons in the file folders.

Silent Auction—These volunteers are divided into 3 groups: organizers, set up, and

breakdown. Organizers collect and store goods and services from the community, and they prepare auction sheets and product packaging for the meets. Set up volunteers help set up the silent auction displays, oversee the auction tables during the first half of the meet, and answer questions from bidders. Breakdown volunteers take over during the second half of the meet. They oversee the tables, answer questions from bidders, identify the winners, and secure the goods and services at the end of the meets.

50/50 Raffle—These volunteers sell tickets for a drawing in which half the proceeds go toward the drawing winner and the other half go toward the swim club.

Badge Checker—At the championship meet only individuals with badges will be permitted on the pool deck. Each team will be responsible for providing one volunteer for a one-hour time slot to check these badges.

Swim-a-Thon Organizer – Organize and run the Swim-a-thon fundraiser.

Team Party Set Up—These volunteers will organize the team party.
