Taking Care of the Trash There seems to be some confusion about the new automated trash and recycle pickup. Below is a brief recap of the basic information. Oak Meadow trash will only be picked up once weekly, on Tuesdays. TRASH MUST BE INSIDE THE BROWN CONTAINER. Any trash piled on or around the container will not be picked up. Please bag your trash to keep your container clean! The container should not be put out until the night before pickup. Do not leave it at the curb for days at a time. Oak Meadow recycle pickup day is Friday; use your blue container for this. You can dispose of your old trashcans in the recycle container. Your old green recycle box can also be placed in the recycle (blue) container, as it will no longer be used. However, this smaller box is handy to store items until you walk to the big blue bin. Many more items can be recycled now, including most glass and plastic containers (rinsed) and junk mail, phone books, and cardboard boxes (please flatten.) Recycle list from the http://www.sanantonio.gov/swmd/ website
Paper:
Most types of paper, such as ad circulars, catalogs, carbonless paper,
dry goods packaging with liners removed (example: cereal, pasta, rice,
beer/soda cartons) envelopes, file folders, flattened cardboard, junk
mail, magazines, newspapers, office paper, paperback books, paper
bags, paper towel/toilet paper cores, phone books, non-metallic gift
wrap.
A complete list can be found at http://www.sanantonio.gov/swmd/ (click on services, then recycling program.) Your container must be placed in the street with wheels against the curb. Also allow six to eight feet between your container and the mailbox and/or a car. The truck has metal claws that open five to six feet, and if the operator cannot safely pick up your container it will be passed over. Where to store your containers These are huge containers! With spring coming soon, why not clean out the garage and make some room? Do you have room at the side of the house? Can your containers be stored in back? Please do not store your containers in your driveway. City codes and Oak Meadow covenants outlined in your deed prohibit using your driveway for anything other than vehicles that are used on a regular basis. Let's be good neighbors and not be the cause of a fuss about containers. Life has a lot more important aspects for all of us to worry about.
